Leaders in Innovation

PRO strives daily to develop the most effective approaches to preventing youth substance abuse and violence. Over the years, we have refined and expanded its programs to address the many influences that place youth at risk of making destructive, often life-altering choices. PRO's willingness to routinely question the operations and adjust to present day needs enables our programs to be among the most effective and innovative in the country.

Just a few of PRO's program outcomes include:

  • More than two-thirds of PRO After School students with a low grade point average (GPA) increased their GPA by an average of 17 percent.
  • Students Reaching Out participants completed more than 4,600 hours of community service, while learning about the impact of substance abuse.
    "Before [participating in Students Reaching Out] I used to sell drugs, now I don't and I am part of a group that has made a positive impact in the community."
  • Nearly 500 individuals received Information and referral services over one year, a 60 percent increase in just two years.
  • Ninety percent of students participating as mentors for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students reported feeling that they have become good role models and leaders.
    "My role as a mentor has affected how I behave around my family now that I know how to resolve things rationally with my family and my sister, mentoring has made me calmer around her."
  • Before enrolling in People Reaching Out's Family Strengthening program, none of the participating parents reported knowing how to effectively problem solve with their child. At the conclusion of the program, 100% of parents reported feeling confident that they now had the tools for effective communication and problem solving.
    "[The PRO Counselor] has been a God send to me personally in dealing with my five children and in learning more about myself and [being] a better parent. [The Counselor] has made herself available to me by allowing me to call her anytime I've been in a crisis situation that I needed immediate advice on how to best handle. I appreciate deeply all her help."
